Hi... :)
I meant to write this post on this past Tuesday, so it's taken me that long to get to actually writing!

So this past Tuesday morning, John and I drove to Mahattan Beach to pick up a car that my dad bought from a guy there. This guy lives 2 blocks from the ocean, so we got to see the ocean, and it was super windy so the ocean was just so beautiful! Really big waves! And that made me so happy to see, I don't think I went to the beach a single time this month, so I was glad. This guy lives in a townhouse(?) there, with an incredible sweeping view of the ocean, which also made me so glad to look out his living room window and see that. He had three surfboards in his garage (a garage so tiny it was more like a closet for a car haha :)

Then we went to Fry's and ate at Boston Market, in Hawthorne? I'm not sure where we were at that point, but it was near the freeway and when you got off the freeway there it said 'welcome to Hawthorne'. Then I drove the car back to my house. And here's the point of this- I was cruising up the freeway(the 405 north) in this car(a Subaru SVX), listening to the radio(K-EARTH 101) and it was a beautiful sunny day, with big white fluffy clouds, clear blue sky, breeze, and I just couldn't help thinking

MAN...I am so GLAD to be in Southern California today!!!

Four to Six months from now, I'll be moving out of Southern California. I keep feeling like I will be moving back here some day, although I don't know how that is, because I don't see us as ever being able to afford a house in Southern California, and we really want to live in a house someday. But for now, I'm leaving. And I feel like I really want to make the most of the time I have left here.

I have two whole days off, without even school, so one of these days, we are going down to visit our friends Tom and Erica and their new baby Audrey, and they are near San Diego, so I think we should go to the beach while we're there, because I HAVE to go to the beach this weekend. Maybe somewhere on the way, La Jolla, that's on the way right? A while ago I read an article in the newspaper about "Trestles", a famous surf spot down there somewhere that looked really pretty, like it was a meadow almost right up to the beach, really pretty. Maybe that was an old picture. Anyways...if we don't go to the beach there then I think I'll go up to Zuma Beach, or maybe down to Redondo Beach because I've never been there. I like Huntington beach but it's kind of far. OH MY GOSH...I just had the BEST idea...
So whatever day of these two days we don't go to vist T and E, we plan on visiting the Beach Boys Memorial in Hawthorne, since we are both currently Beach Boys obsessed. And I just thought--- we should do that in the mid morning, and then afterwards, we can continue on south to ABALONE COVE!!!! As a late Valentine's Day trip. Yes! :D Let me go check the weather in San Pedro....it will be 70F on both days, so if it's not too windy, then it will be pleasant. Oh, I am so smart. What a great idea.

Now I have to go because I SRSLY have to do schoolwork tonight. Have a good weekend....
Carolyn

<img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/181/440458306_83bd81862c.jpg?v=0" alt="Brian can't surf.
I had a pretty good day today. Work was nice...we made these new "college" type earrings by stitching together pieces of crochet....looks like the patterns in a Klimt painting. We hope to get a less expensive version into B.CO. They look awesome!
The necklace and bracelet I designed for S. catalogue were sent off, so hopefully they will be selected. We would really like to have more items in that catalogue. I'm crossing my fingers!

Then after work I ate a quick dinner with John (Turkey+chedder sandwich, cantaloupe), had a freezee (otter) pop and some conversation, also with John. Next I went to Korean class. It felt much better than last week, since we actually did something this time. However, i know that it will be for at least the next 4-5 weeks that it will be all review for me, which can be so frustrating. But I *have* to stick with it this time. I know I already know this stuff, but I need the offical Univeristy of California-Riverside credits to prove it. Patience!

We got Pinkberry again today! Let me explain this to you~ Pinkberry is a chain of frozen-yogurt stores in LA. It is SO delicious, and my boss loves it so much, that she has twice bought it for all of us. Ohhh it's SO good. And this is the best part--- One is being built *right next door* to our studio/shop!! Wow I can't wait! But I have to be careful not to blow my budget on this yummy frozen yogurt... It's plain-flavored yogurt, but they put fresh fruit toppings on, and the fruit is SO good... The blackberries i had today were so incredibly plump and juicy.... So great!

It remined me of...... When I worked in the Ozarks for the Missouri Conservation Department, and we would be out all day in the sweltering hot forest... Sometimes we would come across a bush of gooseberries, and when we did we would just stop and clear off the whole bush! They were soooo good....all plump and warm in the sun. MMmmmm wild gooseberries.
What is a gooseberry? They seemed like just really round and fat blackberries, but I was told they were gooseberries. Maybe it's an Ozark thing.

Goodnight!

PS~ Is not the state of the middle east f*cked up? What is with Isreal and Lebanon? Like so many other things, I just try not to think about it. I'll think about Pinkberry and Korean class instead. blah~~

Wow, what a day today was. A rollercoaster, up and down! I had a pretty terrible hour or two this afternoon driving without diretion around downtown Los Angeles, in the incredible heat. We did manage to get part of John's traffic ticket fixed, so I'm really glad about that. Oh also we got his brakes fixed too, so that's really good. Now we can drive his car most of the time, which gets much better gas mileage than my car. Another good thing is that we also made a MAJOR budget, which we really needed. It was pretty depresing to see the sad, sad state of our current finances..........really sad. But at least I'm going to bed hopeful.

Bought some groceries that we needed, too. At the dollar store, as part of our new budget.

A sad thing from this past Friday... So for several months now I've been debating whether I should start taking hula lessons again. Well last week I decided that I didn't want to wait anymore, and that I would go to class again. So I tried to get ahold of my teacher, but was unable too. This worried me a little because the last time I talked to her (about 7 months ago) she had some serious health problems, but was getting better. So when I couldn't get ahold of her, I contacted the school and they said "Yep she's still teaching!" so I was glad. Friday night, i showed up for class, and the lady at the desk says "Sorry, hula class is cancled, Okima had a medical emergency and had to go to the hospital this afternoon". !!! I was really sad, and surprised. I couldn't believe it. But I think it means I'm not supposed to be studying hula right now. So that takes care of that issue.
I'll try calling her again tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll get ahold of her. I really hope I can, because the lady at the school said it sounded very serious this time, so....I just hope I can talk to her! She is such a sweet lady, and was really kind to me last year, and I just would like to talk to her and tell her thank you. :/ blah.

July 9th was the Lotus Festival in LA (even tho the lotus hadn't bloomed yet, they're late this year) and my samulnori group performed. Unfotunately, John was having a bad photography day, and there are NO good pictures of me playing. Really, none. In the best one, you still see mostly Brian playing the ching and like half of my head. -_- So this is all I got:

Oh wait, I don't seem to have an ftp program on my computer or something. You'll have to wait. I'm going to bed. I am so EXHAUSTED.

It ended up costing $1375, so I hope she comes in tomorrow and picks it up and gives us a good day. :)
615 pm get home, go running
7 pm sit on coach drinking water and listening to john tell me about his day at work (i.e. how to play caribbean stud poker)
730 pm take shower
800 pm start heating up dinner....
---John had poker tonight so i was just heating up the leftover thai food for dinner. in the middle of it, Doug (his bro) showed up so i made him thai food too. Then Jonathan showed up so I made him some too. then i decided i didn't want what little thai was left and made a cheese-tomato-avacado-grainbread sandwich oh so good. We went to the grocery store last night and i bought tons of fruit/veggies cause it was super cheap. Some really good cherries mmmm. But I realized that $100 at the grocery store doesn't get me as far as i always tought it did (well $137 before coupons and discounts.)
830 pm do dishes
900 pm leave the men to their poker and check my email etc
915 pm work on my new budget (i'm going to STEP UP my rate of saving money in anticiaption of my future move)
10pm update LJ

So I was gonna study tonight since i didn't this morning, but I don't feel like it anymore. It's bedtime for me, anyways. I'm tired! I'll at least do some reading though. Class starts up again for me next Tuesday. I wish i hadn't quit in the middle last fall, but I know at the time it was what I needed to do. Oh well. I just have to play catchup now. (I could be so much further ahead grrrr >_<)

Tomorrow is another day at work. I need to get gas. My mouse just died so i hope i don't need it to finish posting this. I wish i'd felt like playing poker tonight, cause i always like to see Doug (he lives in the OC), but I didn't. Partly because I didn't want to spend the $10. I'm saving money now, not spending it!!

I have A TON of stuff (mostly clothes, but other Junque too) that i want to sell on ebay...but I dont know if it's worth the time... I have to take pictures of everything, then pack and ship everything when it actually sells.... and I don't know if anything will sell for that much. which kind of sucks because i feel like i should be able to make SOME money off all this stuff... ugh i dunno what to do. it's so much stuff!!!

I've got more to write but really I'm too tired, can't sit at the computer for this long anymore. so I'll see you later!

peace out

oh yeah my samulnori group is performing at the Lotus Festival on sunday. I really hope our practice saturday night doesn't go too late, because then i can make it over the the festival for the taiko/fireworks preformance! :D!!! I think i wanna to hiking this sunday. Maybe. Ask me again at 730 on sunday morning.

manoa~~

k bed gnite

    <lj:music>john's snoring.. ^^;;;</lj:music>

hi folks!

Today we went to the beach because yes i was DYING to go to the beach... i thought it was going to be sunny this afternoon on the coast, but it wasn't, it was cold (well chilly) and windy and totally overcast...but still soooooooooo great!!! anytime i go and walk in the ocean it makes me feel so good, better, even if it's cold out.

we went to the little beach in Oxnard that we found accidentally once when we were driving around there randomly... i love that beach. it's off the beaten path (compared to most public beaches in the LA area i feel) and it's got great rocks and feels a little secluded...perfect for quiet beach enjoying. there were a few surfers as the waves were BIG, and it was great that i got to sit and watch them. the water was as cold as ice water so of course i couldn't go in (no wetsuit!!) but a big wave did splash me all the way over my waist as i was sitting on the shore writing in my journal (amazingly my notebook didn't get too wet, haha!) but even though it was freezing, i laughed and loved it because i just love the ocean!!! it is my friend! :D

and i decided once and for all that i AM moving to hawai'i and i AM going back to school, so....there. it's been 2 and a half years that i've been talking about it, and i finally decided that well haha...i'm worth it! and i guess 2.5 years is long enough to prove that it is something i really want to do.

so there it is. whew! feels good. now i can dig out my old notebooks and pick up where my hawai'i planning left off in 2004. so approximately 2 years from now, i plan to make the move. let's see what happens between now and then!! a lot can change (for sure!)

i am SO jealous of my brother's (jwwjr) new house and new puppy! >___< i want a house and a puppy!!! i want a jindo dog so bad and there are ALWAYS people walking them around my neighborhood and i'm so jealous! feh!! but no house (or even new apt) and no dog for me until i move out of los angeles. and back from hawai'i. -_- so it will be quite some time. OH WELL, RIGHT? XD

so last night we ate at kobe ramen in lil tokyo because WE LOVE THAT PLACE and everytime we eat there it is soooo good and makes us so happy and satisfied feeling. and as soon as we walked in, the funny waiter saw us and pointed to the wall and my kitty picture was still on the wall!! :D yay me! he had me draw another picture to put on the clipboard of customer pictures bye the lucky neko. he said 'do you want it on the wall, or the clipboard?' and i said clipboard cause i think having 2 pics on the wall is just too much! i can't compete with his great drawings ^_^ haha. ohhh food was soooooooo good~~

so on the way out (it was um 1130 pm) i looked int he window of the used book/gifts store nearby and saw a SO CUTE early 80's kodansha manga with adorable little kids on the front (in the early 80's manga style i love) and decided i had to have it so john said we'd come back the next day to get it before we went to the beach (he's so great) BUT

we came this morning at 11:30 and they werne't open!!! >_< nooo! and i peeped in the door and they had a pile of mail that looked a month old so i don't know when they'll be open again. john took down the number and i'll call them sometime cause.....i have to have that book! T_T too bad i didn't taken down the title....i should have! blah. only know it was published by kodansha..........................~

i have been on a clothes buying spree lately because i have been wanting things in a different style than i've worn for the last 6-7 years....so now i TOTATLLY need to get rid of some things...i have i think 12 pairs of jeans which is just OUTRAGEOUS. at least i buy most things used, so i don't pay more than 5-7$ for stuff. oh and Sonya (my boss) gave me a ton of free stuff from C & C California which i totally love!!!! i was so excited cause i like their stuff but it's out of my price range (which is "under $10" haha) she's so nice. i love my boss!

did i post a link to our website? i can't remember. here it is!
http://www.sonyaooten.com

ha! what else did we do today? we went to fry's (in oxnard) and bought the new TOOL cd and a wireless card for john's new (doug's old) laptop. and i got some rainbow barrettes at the 99cent store. oh at fry's they had metal DDR pads out and.....ohhhhhhhhhhh.....COVET. i want one soooooooooooooo bad! but no! it is not an expense for right now. poo! at the store i tried out the sample and tried to do one of my favorite songs (butterfly!) on the hardest level, just like i used to do...and i couldn't even get my brain to follow the arrows, much less my feet! ;_; kind of sad when you find some skill you used to do so well you can't even do anymore. sad to lose knowledge! like calculus. i used to do know how to do calculus. really. i couldn't do it now. i wouldn't even know where to start.

ok i had something to do before bed but i can't remember what it is so i'm just gonna go put some clothes away. oh yeah i found a shell with a hole in it at the beach today and i'm gonna go crochet a necklace for it.

goodnight all~~~~ ^^

Yes, slacking on the updates! Just seems I had a lot of late nights last week, and when it was time for bed I was way too tired to write in LJ. So here I am more than a week later, I think.

Uhmm....I only did a little drawing this week. I just have too many interests. But my thing with drawing was that I was going to do it every day, whether i wanted to or not. I guess that's not working very well.

I really want a sewing machine. Really. But I'm trying not to buy things.

Guess what... John has agreed to move to Hawaii, so that means I will be as cool as miss diablorobotica and go Back to School. Unless of course I am successful in talking myself out of it before it happens. I already know it's what I want to do, but I'm trying really hard to discourage myself.

i guess we felt like we needed another vacation, so we drove to Palm Springs last night and stayed at a Motel 6. Then this morning we were gonna hang out in Palm Springs, but we accidentally drove out of town and ending up going to 29 Palms (which still sucked) and then a thrift store in Yucca Valley (that was awesome) and then we drove in the middle of nowhere for a lonnnnnnng time (twice the road was no longer paved it and it just ran into dirt in the desert, and we had to turn around) and finally ended up in Amboy, Ca. Which was DESERTED!! >_< So then we foudn the Amboy Crater, and spent a couple hours hiking through the desert with no water and no sunscreen. And the crater actually turned out pretty dumb, although the lava rock everywhere was cool. Then we droveanother long time in the middle of nowhere, and we wanted to see Baghdad, cause it was on the map, but when we got there.....it didn't exsist. :/ So that was disappointing. Then we ended up in BARSTOW! again. And ate at a good italian place, then drove home finally. So that was our adventure for the weekend.

And I am now a member of the changu group at the Jung Im Lee Korean Dance Academy which is like 5 minutes from my apartment so it's great. I am soooooooooooooooooooooooo glad to be playing the drums again. This group isn't quite as advanced as the group I left, but they're gonna get there, i think. Our frist performance is at the Pasadena Summer Fest at the Rose Bowl. It looks huge, I'm not sure where we fit in.

I am sooooooooooooooooooooo glad I joined that group.

Bye gotta go to bed.

Hi!

1. Today I finished inking my Frances picture. So until furthur notice, I'm done with it. In the future I might scan it in and post it on DA, and I also might photocopy it and color it. But for now, it is done :D
See the pencils here on DA: Frances, 2006

Had a great day at work today. Today was the gem show in Santa Monica and when Sonya got back she said "So are you ready to bead??" and I'm all "What??" cause we haven't done any beading, and DUMP! she dumps on my table 6 books about beading (really nice ones) and a HUGE~ bag of beautiful glass seed beads...!! Some great matte yellow-green ones, and matte verigated pink/red/orange (love those!) and then some cut bronze and gold and silver colored ones...and more!! *_* So she says "do some research, learn how to bead, and see what you can make!!" So I spent the rest of the day reading beading books and thinking "I'm getting PAID to do this??"

I love my job........!!  T__T;;

But tomorrow is my 7th day in a row in the studio, so I'm ready for a break. Right now I'm going to go pack/prepare for my little trip to Barstow.

bye~

ps-- i really want a sewing machine!! but it must wait. I just spent $60 on a laser printer I haven't used yet. -_-

    <lj:music>Tekken Tag Tournament - Hwoarang's Theme</lj:music>

Hi!

Today I worked on my Frances drawing. I'm proud of myself for a few things.
First off, last night I was really excited about inking it, but then I was unable to because my pen needed to be cleaned. So I should have cleand it then, but because I'm really impatient I instead looked around for another pen to use. I'm proud of myself because instead of settling for a lesser pen, I instead made myself just leave it and not do anything. I would have regretted using another pen.
So I'm also proud because this morning before I went to work I put the pen nib in the jar of cleaner to let it soak all day. Usually I don't do anything productive before I go to work.
So when I got home tonight I rinsed out the nib for a long time and now my pen is working better than it has in a long time. So I'm really proud of myself that I was patient and knew when to step away before i did something dumb, and then i took the time to clean the pen. These are big things for me!

I'm working on learning that I don't have to do everything all at once, and that taking lots of babysteps is actually productive. I'm applying that at work, too. If I have a big project to work on (like a whole bag of silk necklaces that need the ends put on -_-) I'm doing just a little at a time and breaking up the task, instead of doing it all at once and getting really burnt out. Like today Sonya brought me some gold-fill chain so I got all excited about making some cheap(er) versions of our braided-chain necklaces, so I just started making and making, and by 4 necklaces (a couple hours) I was totally burnt out and feeling down that I still had more I wanted to make. But I just said "well i'm quitting now cause i'm burnt out, i'll make the rest tomorrow", whereas in the past I would sometimes just keep making and making and work through the burn-out, which makes it worse, just to say that I finished everything I wanted to finish at some given time.

So I'm also proud of myself that tonight after I spent a couple hours inking with my glorious like-new pen, I stepped away when I was getting tired, whereas in the past I would have kept working through the tired, because I'm so gung-ho about inking. Then I would eventually end up making a mistake and going to bed upset about it. Instead I stepped away! I quit while I was a head. And I will continue inking tomorrow.

So that's what I did tonight on my Creative Projects.

--
I did something else to furthur my creative projects today. At worked I scored a prize.... Dosa's 2005 catalogue... ;__; It's beautiful. Huge colorful pictures of vibrant clothes and lush hawai'i....with a cover of yellow handmade paper with mica flecks in it.... I am so loving it. We got it in the mail yesterday at the studio, and Sonya already had one from when she was at their showroom last week(?). So I got it! What an incredible reference! It will have a place of honor on my reference shlef. It has already inspired me a new creative project. Which I'm not adding to the List yet. (Where can I post this list? LJ is not working for this. Must I make a webpage??)

And now a little ramble that is not about the creative process. I've always loved costume/clothes, and so fashion. But I've never really wanted expensive clothes much. Before i moved to LA, I didn't know that you could buy a pair of jeans for $500+ dollars. And I might not have belived you if you told me. But now I've been exposed to so many more expensive brands, and inevitably, I am craving some of them. I used to want this great pair of corduroys by True Religion, but not anymore. I'm so over them. Now I am coveting this SO COOL pair of lime-green silk shorts with lace trim in the Dosa catalogue. I'm not even going to find out how much they cost because i know I can't afford them. Is it hard to make shorts? Maybe I'll buy some silk (or cheap rayon, that's shiny/silky, right? no? I don't know these things) and make some myself.

John found out tonight that he was picked to be in a "core group" of Japanese soldiers in the "Red Sun Black Sand" movie...so tomorrow after work in "Deadwood" (i didn't know that show was still on) he's driving up to Barstow, where he'll be staying until April 7th. All this time to myself, what will I do?? :) He has Sundays off, so Saturday after i get off work I'm going to drive up to Barstow and stay slumber party with him in the hotel. And maybe we'll go to Vegas. [BUT WE SHOULDN'T CAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY TO BE LOSING RIGHT NOW.] ughhhh i'm still remmebering our last disastrous trip to Las Vegas. BUT IT SURE WAS FUN!!! I liked the "Alien" movie-themed video slots the best (the kitty cat!!) hahaha I have to tell you we drove to Vegas one afternoon, Spent like 10 hours gambling (lost money) then drove home ast 6am the next morning. IT WAS NOT GOOD, KIDS!! Soooooo exausted, drained, and poor afterwords. BUT IT SURE WAS FUN!!!! XD

Ok I'm gonna go chat with my beau them go to bed. Have a great night, folks!

Hi! I'm going to the beach tomorrow. I don't have to go into the studio and it's going to be 75F on the coast. I am so going to the beach! And I'm going to browse that funky little jewelry shop in Venice that I never get to visit, and I'm going to the goodwill in Santa Monica to find some treasures. And I'm giong in the o~~~~~cean. Dunno what else. oh yeah Wumpskate is tomorrow! So I'll probably do some rollerskating to goth/industrial music too.

Why does it take so long to do things on the ocmputer? I've been on the computer for I think 2 hours now, and I've only gotten a few things done. But I'm leaving now to draw a unicorn, or sleep. Or read. I hope John gets home reasonably early tonight (he's at karaoke). I worked this weekend because we have a show next week (New York Gift? maybe) so I was making lots of samples. So tomorrow is my first real day off and I suddenly wish he were here. Well just for a moment, I think it passed already. :)

I forgot I was hungry, so I think I'm going to go cook some food. Wish I had some spaghetti-os, that sounds really good right now.

I wish I could post a picture. Maybe hold on.

Ok there you go. haha!

hup hup.. gonna go do stuff now.... ps i've been drawing tons, and i love my job! I actually caught myself thinking one morning this week "I can't wait to go to work today!" hahahaha! I am living the S.W.E.E.T.L.I.F.E. yes i am! whew. ok gonna go!

byebye
